Ighalo Voted 2015 Complete Sports Player Of The Year

Without any doubt, Odion Ighalo, was the best Nigerian footballer of 2015. And Complete Sports and Completesportsnigeria.com readers have confirmed this by giving him more votes than all other nominees for our award combined.
The Super Eagles and Watford striker was overwhelmingly voted the 2015 Complete Sports Player of the Year, easily beating off competition from Obafemi Martins, Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ahmed Musa.
Ighalo polled a whopping 59 per cent of the votes, with new Super Eagles captain Musa coming second with 18 per cent.
Manchester City youngster Iheanacho, who graduated to the senior teams of the club and national team last year, came third with 11 per cent of the votes.
Golden Eaglets World Cup record goal scorer with 10 goals Osimhen finished fourth in the voting with seven per cent, while Seattle Sounders star striker Obafemi is fifth with five per cent.
Ighalo chose 2015 to explode. While the Watford striker's talent was never in doubt even as a youngster, he has now stood up to be counted.
Everything Ighalo has touched in 2015 has turned into gold. He started scoring for Watford, who he joined from Granada, from 10 January and he continued until the club's last match of the year on 28 December.
In that 12-month period his goals have led Watford from the second-tier Championship to the Premier League and instead of struggling with the step-up in class, Ighalo has thrived on the big stage.
In 2015 alone, Ighalo has scored 30 league goals in the two divisions – 16 in the Championship, 14 in the Premier League – making him the most prolific player in England's top four divisions.
Ighalo has also become Watford's highest ever scorer in the EPL era and the first Watford player in history to score in six straight EPL matches.
Our football-savvy readers have also voted Ighalo Complete Sports Player of the Month a remarkable four times in 2015 and it is no surprise he is also Player of the Year.
How our readers voted
