Celine Dion’s Husband Rene Angelil Has Died

What is with this week? First, we learned that legendary singer, songwriter, and actor David Bowie had passed after a battle with cancer. We were still heartbroken over that, but then it was revealed this morning that Alan Rickman has also died from cancer. And now, more sad news: Céline Dion’s husband, René Angélil, has passed away too, from throat cancer.

“René Angélil, 73, passed away this morning at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer,” his rep said in a statement to People. “The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment.”

Angélil is survived by Dion and the couple’s three children—René-Charles, 14, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 5. He is also survived by three children from a previous relationship: Anne-Marie, Patrick, and Jean-Pierre. Dion and Angélil first met in 1980, when he was her manager and mentor. They married in 1994.
